Make It Count ! ~ Based on a sermon by Pastor Kevin Dudley, August 10, 2014

August 14, 2014

John 12:1-8 Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages. ” He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it. “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.” (‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭1-8‬ NIV)

How can we make every moment count, make them special? We waste our time. We waste our health. We waste our emotional energy on other’s people’s drama. We waste affection on people who don’t appreciate it. We dishonor God with each wasted moment and action. We don’t have time to waste. We have been given the power to make every moment count, make every moment special by sharing it with God and giving Him the glory while we make it through!

We cannot afford to minimize God’s presence in our life. God is looking for unselfish, unapologetic worship in our lives. We can’t schedule our worship time with God. Worship is an Attitude! It’s a lifestyle.

Worship is when you work it out. To show her worship, Martha served. It was in Martha’s willingness to serve not expecting anything in return but to give God the glory.

Worship is when you wait for it. Lazarus was dead for three days before Jesus brought him back to life. That’s three days waiting for God to show up. No matter how dead your situation may be God can turn it around and bring life to it. We can worship God when we do nothing at all, or when we are sleep. We must wait for God’s time to come to bring life to our circumstance and enjoy the breakthrough in God’s presence.

Worship is when we want it. Mary wanted to worship God in abundance that she poured perfume that was worth one year’s salary on Jesus feet and wiped with her hair. She was not distracted by other people or activities around her. Mary’s focus was on The Lord. How different would our lives be if we truly want God more than anything. Mary wanted the best and she gave her best.

As we change our lifestyle to worship God do not be distracted on what you can get out of it more than what you can give. Enjoy life, laugh, love. Don’t be extra stiff and religious. Our worship is to be in God’s presence, to give God the glory. God is concerned about every precious moment in our life. We have something more to live for…Make it Count!
