Give Me Some Room ~ Based on a sermon by Pastor Kevin Dudley, Sunday November 2, 2014

November 5, 2014

Mark 5:37-42  He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion andS wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat. (Mark 5:37-42 NIV)

God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think.  God is able to do anything but fail. Spend time searching the scriptures for yourself to see that God is able to make what was wrong, right. He can restore what was broken. He can cleanse what was corrupt. God is able to change it. God is able to fix it. God is able do the impossible in every area of our life if we just give God some room.

We have been given the power and authority of God; it is always available to us.  We miss out on so much because we lack the capacity to allow God’s power to work in our lives.  The space that we create for God to be God in our lives is what our worship is all about.  Stop allowing worthless worship to take up the space that is meant for God. When you worry, when you whine, when you monopolize the conversation with complaining you are saying that you rather give room for your worries and not make room for God in your life.  As you pray maximize your capacity for the Lord to work in your life. You can start to make room for God by:

~Invite the necessary interruption.  How much energy and emotion do you put into things that you have no control over?  Can you give as much energy and emotion to God for what He is about to do in your life. We need an interruption from God to shake us out of our pitiful place and give us hope that He is not through with us yet.  Trust God enough to close a door that you have tried to pry open.  Trust God to stop anything in you that is not consistent with what God needs done in our lives. God interrupt me when my mouth does not speak words that are pleasing and acceptable to you. Make room for God; Make room for interruptions for God to show up in your life.

~Adjusting to the demands of divine authority.  In the text, the people laughed at Jesus because he tells them that, “The child is not dead but asleep.”  They didn’t understand what God was about to do, because they were used to accepting what was.  They needed to adjust their thinking to the demands of divine authority.  Jesus took the mother, father and disciples with Him to wake the child up. He did not allow unproductive distractions, or worthless worship to get in the way. We need to not tolerate things that are hindering and getting in the way of what God is trying to do. Claim The Authority and get rid of the distractions that are not contributing to the faith to get you through to do God’s business.  When divine authority is active, whatever it was doesn’t have to be what is!

~Prepare for practical participation. When Jesus speaks to the child she gets up and starts moving around. Jesus tells the parents to get the child something to eat. So simple, but their participation is needed.  How prepared are you for God’s blessing in your life. Many of the things that we pray for we are not equipped to receive. It’s time to prepare for practical participation. Start your clean up, stock up, whatever it may be that will make room for what you are believing God for.

Worship God with your life. It is not about the place, but it is about the space. God will fill the space that we give Him. Remove the worry, the doubt, the distractions that have no authority in your life. Let go and let God make the necessary interruptions in your life. Don’t give credit to the things that are trying to destroy you. Adjust to the demands of divine authority. Be prepared to participate so that God can count on you being active when He shows up and shows out in your life. Worship God by making room for Him in your life!
